As a Judge I promise to protect and defend the U.S. Constitution, and the civil rights guaranteed to the citizens of the State of Illinois. As a man of color, born in Yazoo, Mississippi and raised in the Robert Taylor projects on the Southside of Chicago, I understand the struggle of not only African Americans, but all minorities and all the people in our communities with struggles. I've seen the injustices, racial bias, and prejudice in our court system. It is my intention to bring compassion, patience and fairness to the courtroom without regard to race, creed, color, religion, national origin or sexual preference. All litigants, plaintiff and defendants will be guaranteed the opportunity to be heard and have their day in court.
I don't believe that every person that commits a crime deserves to go to jail. I believe that certain crimes should have a second chance to rehabilitate. I will utilize all the resources and services available to me as a Judge to provide alternatives to incarceration, especially our juveniles.
